Air Compressor Repair

Air Compressors are machines that converts power into potential energy in the form of compressed air. Compressors force air into its storage tanks thus increasing its pressure when the tank reaches its pressure limit the air compressors can be automatically or manually shut off. The compressed air stored in the tank is stored until it is needed to be used.

Energy held in compressed air is used in wide range of applications using the kinetic energy of the air. As the air is being released the tank depressurizes in this process. When the tank reaches its low-pressure point or near empty, the compressor turns on to pressurize the tank again.

Air compressor units are composed of air compressor system, electric motor, and belt, direct or gear drive and automatic controls. Air compressor also comes with a variety of configurations: gasoline or diesel engines, optional separate mounted air receivers.

Types of Air Compressors

A positive displacement compressor operates by forcing air into its chamber while decreasing its volume to compressed air. Once the maximum pressure is attained the port valve opens and the air stored is discharged through the outlet system. The common types of these air compressors are piston type, rotary screw, and the vane compressors.

The Dynamic displacement air compressor comprises centrifugal compressors and axial compressors. This type of compressors uses a rotating component and conveys its kinetic energy to the air which converts it to pressure energy. A spinning impeller generates centrifugal force this can either accelerate or decelerate captured air, which pressurizes it.

Air Compressors are an integral part of many industries. The constant and daily use can lead to its deterioration and sometimes breakage. Damages and under performances of this machine can cost a lot of money and even hinder the production capability or decrease a shop’s productivity especially if we rely on them for our daily operations.

Air Compressors are commonly utilized in the following industries:

  • Warehouses
  • Transmission shops
  • Waste / Garbage services
  • Car / Automotive shops
  • Fabricating industry
  • Logistics industry
  • Packaging industry
  • Businesses that involves the use of pneumatic system in their conveyors

Maintenance and Air Compressor Repair

Maintaining the oil levels and viscosity of your machine is of the greatest importance. A complete air compressor maintenance routine will check oil and fluid levels daily to make sure they are at the right level and do not need to be changed. However, you can also extend the life of your oil and other fluids by keeping your air filter clean and changing it regularly.

Air compressor general preventive maintenance routine includes:

  1. Check Pump Oil Level
  2. Oil Leak Inspection
  3. Drain water in tank
  4. Check for weird noise and vibration
  5. Inspect all air leaks
  6. Inspect belts
  7. Check air filters, clean or replace
  8. Check safety relief valve
  9. Check belts if necessary
  10. Check and tighten all bolts
  11. Check connections for leaks
  12. Service pump or engine

One more important part of air compressor maintenance is performing air checks-ups. Oftentimes, leaks in the air system go unnoticed. By including air check-up in your air compressor maintenance, you can locate any leaks and other inefficiencies quickly thus, reducing their undesired effects. IMS has experienced professionals with training on how to keep your air compressors operating at peak performance.
